WHY:

The Maryland Forest Service, in partnership with the Maryland Forest Conservancy District Boards, sponsors an annual Arbor Day Poster Contest for fifth grade students throughout the State of Maryland.

The theme for the poster is: Trees Are Terrific…and Make Communities Healthy!

A winner from each participating county has already been chosen by each local Forestry Board, composed of volunteers who are interested promoting forestry activities. Each county’s first place winner will be judged by the all-volunteer Maryland Urban and Community Forest Committee.

This year, the committee is honored to welcome as a guest judge Maryland First Lady Yumi Hogan, who is an accomplished artist and an adjunct professor at Maryland Institute College of Art.
