Join us this month for our exciting activities and programs!
Events are free and fun for all ages unless otherwise noted. Charges for programs with an entry fees are $3 for residents and $5 for non-residents. Children in car seats enter the park free of charge. Entrance charges apply on weekends and holidays only.

Reptile Feeding: Mondays 11 a.m. at the Park Office (Rain or shine)
Learn reptile facts and watch our resident snake and turtle eat their meals!
Nature Shack: Tuesdays 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Nature Shack next to the Tire Playground (Rain or shine)
Check out fun crafts, games and hands-on nature items. Activities vary each week! Rain location is Park Office. Note: the event on Sept. 19 will start at the park office and will consist of a stream study. Details below.
Story Time: Thursdays 11 a.m. at the Nature Shack (Rain or shine)
Join us for a nature-based story, song and fun. Geared toward children 7 and under. Rain location is Park Office.
Nature Crafts: Sundays 1 p.m. at the Nature Shack next to the Tire Playground (Rain or shine)
Celebrate the end of summer and take home a creation of your own! Park entry fees apply. Rain location is Park Office.
Reptile Encounters: Saturday and Sundays 5 p.m. at the Nature Shack next to the Tire Playground (Rain or shine)
Meet a living snake or turtle, and examine shells and skins from reptiles living in the park! Park entrance fees apply. Rain location is Park Office.
Sept. 2: Bioblitz Walk 10 a.m. at the Boat Center (Rain or shine)
Join the Park Naturalist team of Bonnie, Bert,
Claudia and Nik as they do a short walk and identify and record all the species
located near the Boat Center for entry into an online database. Open to all ages.
Sept. 2-4: Pontoon Tours 2 and 4 p.m. at the Boat Center (Shine only)
On this relaxing 45-minute ride, you will learn about the history of the area and search for wildlife that call Clopper Lake home. $2/person in addition to park entrance fees.
The Boat Center closes after Labor Day.
Sept. 4: Birding by Boat 8:15 a.m. at the Boat Center (Shine only)
Do you enjoy birding? Join Park Manager Dave Powell to bird off the
pontoon boat. Bring binoculars and your identification if you have one. Fun for ages; $2/person in addition to park entrance fees.
Sept. 6: Moonlight Pontoon 6 p.m. at the Boat Center (Shine only)
Take a relaxing 45-minute evening ride, learn about the history of the area and search for wildlife that call Clopper Lake home! $2/person in addition to park entrance fees.
Sept. 8: Black Rock Mill Heritage Hike 6 p.m. at the Seneca Ridge Trail (Rain or shine)
Join Ranger Ledbetter to
explore the ruins of Black Rock Mill, one of the county’s few remaining
water-powered mills. Learn why it was briefly considered the “grain belt” of
the nation. Open to all ages.
Sept. 9: Greenway Hike 9 a.m. at the Park Office (Rain or shine)
Join park staff to hike 2.3
miles north (4.6 roundtrip) along the Greenway Trail to Route 355. Wear
comfortable walking shoes, and bring water and bug spray.
Sept. 9: Bug Hunt 2 p.m. at the Park Office (Shine only)
Join park staff to net and
identify bugs using magnifying glasses and learn basic bug anatomy. Appropriate for ages 5 and up.
Sept. 13: Wildflower Walk 9 a.m. at the Park Office (Rain or shine)
Join us for a 2-mile guided walk to take in the beauty of wildflowers. Bring your identification guide (not required) to learn how to look for common species. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water.
Sept. 16: Fishing by Boat 8:30 a.m. at the Boat Center (Shine only)
Do you enjoy fishing? Try it by boat! We’ll provide rods, reels, bait and
expert angler-volunteer Ted Manley. Register for this event and acquire your
Maryland non-tidal fishing license in advance. Feel free to bring your
own supplies. $2/person in addition to park entrance fees.
Sept. 16: Tie-Dye Noon-2 p.m. at the Nature Shack (Shine only)
Bring
your own material to tie-dye shirts, bandanas, socks, etc. and we’ll supply
the dye and instructions! A limited supply of t-shirts will be available for
purchase.
Sept. 17: Grusendorf Log Cabin Open House 2-4 p.m. at the Park Office (Rain or shine)
Have you ever wondered about the log cabin next to our park office? Come learn all about it and the Clopper family. Bring the family and try an old-time craft!
Sept. 19: Nature Shack: Stream Study 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Park Office (Shine only)
Be a part of World Water Monitoring Day! This week of Nature
Shack will features a half-mile hike to Seneca Creek where we’ll take
measurements and collect data from the stream. Wear closed-toe shoes that can get
wet.
Sept. 23: Invasive Plant Walk 10 a.m. at the Park Office (Shine only)
Learn which plants are beneficial and
detrimental to Maryland's native wildlife, as well as how to identify plants that are
considered invasive. Bring a smartphone and/or identification guide if you have them, and wear comfortable
walking shoes.
Sept. 24: Autumn Pontoon Boat Ride 11 a.m. at the Boat Center (Shine only)
Take a relaxing 45-minute
ride on the Blue Heron pontoon boat. Learn about the history of the area and
search for the wildlife who call Clopper Lake home. The autumn ride will be
focused on foliage as well as animal behavior as they prepare for winter. $2/person in addition to park entrance fees.
Sept. 29: Scales & Tales Campfire 6 p.m. at the Park Office (Rain or shine)
Meet reptiles and raptors at the campfire ring. Wear weather-appropriate clothing and bring bug spray. Feel free
to bring your own chairs and supplies to make s’mores after the presentation! Rain location is at Park Office.
Sept. 30: National Public Lands Day Trail Work 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Pheasant Run Picnic Area (Rain or shine)
Join park staff in constructing
a re-route along the Mink Hollow Trail. Bring water, work gloves and bug spray, and
wear comfortable shoes. Be prepared to walk into the site with work tools.
Student Service Learning hours will be available. Appropriate for ages 10 and up.
