Business Owners of Maryland:
Sign up for MarylandSaves by Dec. 31. Qualify for your $300 fee waiver.
To all of our licensees who own businesses in Maryland:
Every worker should have the opportunity to secure their financial future through retirement savings. Maryland law requires that most private sector employers offer their employees a retirement savings program, and MarylandSaves is a free and easy way for businesses to meet that requirement and offer a resource to their employees.
If you are a business owner, register with MarylandSaves by December 31, 2025, to make sure your business is in compliance, and access a $300 fee waiver (details below).
Please note: The requirement to either offer a retirement plan or sign up employees for MarylandSaves applies to all employers in Maryland that use an automated payment system, and have been in operation for at least two years, regardless of the classification of employees.
By registering, you may also qualify for a waiver of your $300 State Department of Assessment and Taxation (SDAT) Annual Report Filing Fee. To be eligible for the 2026 fee waiver, employers must register and submit payroll contributions by Dec. 31. Payroll contributions submitted after Dec. 31 would qualify the employer for the 2027 fee waiver. You can apply for the waiver every year that you are registered with MarylandSaves.
If you already offer a qualified retirement plan to your employees, you may also be eligible to receive a waiver for your SDAT Annual Report filing fee. Use your EIN and SDAT number to certify your exemption annual report fee waiver at marylandsaves.org/waiver.
The bottom line: MarylandSaves is free to employers and provides your employees with an automatic way to save for retirement and emergencies that they can take wherever their career leads. Learn more at MarylandSaves.com.
