Continuing Education Requirements - Effective Jan 1, 2026

The Annotated Code of Maryland requires licensees to complete six hours of approved continuing education as a condition of license renewal. The effective date for licensees to come into compliance with this requirement will be January 1, 2026.
All licensees under the Board of Cosmetologists are required to comply to keep your license in good standing, no exceptions.
This includes:
- Senior Cosmetologists
- Cosmetologists
- Hairstylists
- Hairstylists - Blowdry
- Estheticians
- Nail Technicians
Continuing Education courses must be taken exclusively from the Approved Providers List.
Courses must be taken within your renewal period. Any courses taken outside of your current license expiration date will be deemed invalid. for example, if your license was issued on February 1, 2024, and expires on February 1, 2026, you must complete all six required courses within that two-year period to remain in compliance.
The courses will cover topics in the following areas:
- occupational health and safety
- ethics and professional standards
- cosmetology practice
- product knowledge
- sanitation
- infectious and communicable disease control
- business
