RENEW YOUR LICENSE ONLINE
The Maryland Real Estate Commission (MREC) strongly encourages all licensees to complete their required continuing education (CE), and to renew on time and online! When you log in to our system or if you look up your license in our public search database, your record may show a different expiration date than what is on your license. That is due to how the system is tracking those dates differently during the pandemic. Please note that you cannot renew your license until you are within 60 days of expiration. When within 60 days of expiration, you must renew prior to making any changes (transfers, active to inactive, etc.) to your license.
All licenses that were extended under the governor's executive order will expire on June 15, 2021. You must complete CE prior to renewing your license. Please renew prior to June 15th to avoid the reinstatement fee.
PAYMENT OF COMMISSIONS
In accordance with the Broker's Act, Title 17-322(b)(21) all commissions must be paid through the broker. The Commission notes that payment through title companies or any other parties is not allowed.
§17-322(b)(21) states: Subject to the hearing provisions of §17–324 of this subtitle, the Commission may deny a license to any applicant, reprimand any licensee, or suspend or revoke a license if the applicant or licensee: for real estate brokerage services provided by an associate real estate broker or a real estate salesperson, accepts a commission or other valuable consideration from any person other than a real estate broker with whom the associate broker or the salesperson is affiliated.
REQUEST A CERTIFICATE OF LICENSURE
Maryland certificates of licensure are generated as hard copy-raised seal documents and are only mailed through the postal service. If you need one, you can request it online. Once you pay for the document, it will be printed in our licensing unit and mailed the next business day. Please ensure that the address you enter is the one where you want your certificate to be sent.
Non-Maryland certificates of licensure (also known as letters of good standing) that are sent to the MREC in support of Maryland reciprocity (PA and OK only), or out-of-state license recognition (all other states), must adhere to certain standards, as well. The delivery mode used to send these documents to us is critical! If the jurisdiction provides the document as a hard copy with a raised seal, it may be sent to you and then mailed to us to support your request. If it is in the form of an electronic file, it must come directly from the other jurisdiction to the MREC.
UPDATE YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESS
Updating your e-mail address is easy using our online portal. If you don’t have a current e-mail address in your record you won’t receive timely notices from us, which may cause you to miss your renewal date and put your transactions at risk. Also, you will incur additional fees to reinstate your license.
MREC is here! There is a large portion of MREC’s operations that requires an in-person presence, so while our offices have been closed to the public, much of the staff have been in the office each day to continue operations.
Message from the Commissioner's Office
By Gregory J. Morgan, Commissioner, Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing, Maryland Department of Labor
This time last year the world was deep in the early stages of the COVID-19 Pandemic and the economy stalled as businesses were forced to close or drastically alter operations. Schools were closed and all of America was feeling the impact of this deadly virus. A year later we still are in the midst of the pandemic, however, in Maryland, we have adapted to the “current normal” and have shown the resiliency and determination that makes our state so great. Our economy is on the path to recovery, and while some industries never slowed down, many others adapted to the restrictions and challenges forced by the pandemic and continued to serve customers while protecting employees and the public they serve.
The Division of Occupational & Professional Licensing (O&P) supports 24 professions and occupations, and the resiliency I mentioned above is seen every day as we work with our licensees to ensure the safety of all Maryland residents. We have added thousands of new occupational and professional licenses since the onset of the pandemic and many Marylanders have taken the steps to secure gainful employment and support their families and the Maryland economy. Our Team at O&P has worked through the pandemic to provide the highest level of service to our licensees while protecting the health of our team. We will continue the mission of O&P “To help foster economic growth by assisting our customers in a timely, professional manner while protecting the health, safety and welfare of the public by assuring that our licensees have met a standard of expertise.”
I join all Marylanders in the hope and vision of an end to this pandemic and a return to the life we knew before its onset. It may take some time, but patience and determination will be the key to a successful return to normal life inclusive of a flourishing economy and our ability to enjoy time with family and friends.
Best wishes for a great summer of 2021 and Go O’s!
