Board of Physical Therapy Examiners Update

Count Down to 2025 Renewal Season!

Are you on track to complete your Continuing Education requirements?

If your license number is an odd number you will need to renew your license between the middle of March and May 31, 2025. That also means that you have only until March 31, 2025 to complete your Continuing Education requirements.

Searching for courses?
Check out our Continuing Education Approved Course List.

A short refresher: All PTs need to have 30 CE hours and all PTAs need to have 20 CE hours. You need to collect these hours between your last renewal and this upcoming one; to be exact, between April 1st, 2023 and March 31, 2025 (COMAR 10.38.08.05).

Did you Know?

Did you know that the Board of Physical Therapy Examiners accepts all CE hours offered and approved by the APTA, all its state chapters, academies, and sections and the FSBPT?

Note: You are not required to take a pre-approved course. Our continuing education review process is designed to take the guesswork out of selecting courses that meet the regulatory requirements.

If you are interested in taking a course that hasn't received a stamp of approval by the Board, the APTA, or the FSBPT, we urge you to review COMAR 10.38.08.03 and COMAR 10.38.08.08 to make sure that course is acceptable.

If you have any questions regarding Continuing Education contact Silke Elsner at silke.elsner@maryland.gov or 443-931-1586.

A Message From Executive Director Kendall-Ellis

As we embrace the fall season, can you believe 2025 is just around the corner? With the new year, it's time for license renewals, which kick off in March. Keep an eye on your mail and email for details on when the renewal portal opens.

Exciting news—there will be two (2) vacancies on the Board for physical therapists who focus primarily on clinical practice. If you're interested, click here to find out more about the Board and how you can get involved in serving your profession.

I suggest adding the Board's website to your computer desktop—it’s a great resource! On the site, you can find the Physical Therapy Act, important forms, approved continuing education courses, FAQs, and information on how to file complaints or self-report. Plus, we’d encourage you to submit scope of practice questions, virtually attend our monthly open session board meetings, and reach out to us anytime!
