ANNAPOLIS, Md. (October 26, 2023) The Office of the Maryland Comptroller is pleased to announce the appointment of Maria Robalino and Robyne McCullough who will join the Comptroller’s Executive leadership team in November, strengthening the agency’s commitment to excellence in public engagement, communications, and media relations.
Maria Robalino, a dynamic and forward-thinking public engagement specialist and legislative campaign strategist with more than 20 years of experience, will take on the role of Deputy Comptroller for Public Engagement and Communications. She has led high-impact legislative issue advocacy campaigns for criminal justice and immigration reform for the American Labor movement and non-profit organizations. Ms. Robalino’s previous roles include Chief Communications and Strategic Outreach Officer at the Maryland Department of Labor, Senior Advisor for Labor Unions and Latino Voter Outreach for the Wes Moore for Maryland campaign, Managing Director of Campaigns and Communications at Americans for Financial Reform, and Federal Advocacy Director at the Alliance for Safety and Justice, among others. With expertise in strategic planning, project management, and community engagement, Ms. Robalino has connected diverse audiences and historically marginalized communities to critical policy discussions. In her new role, she will lead the high-performing public engagement and communications teams and help execute the Comptroller’s strategic vision for public outreach, community partnerships, and communications for the agency.
Robyne McCullough is a multifaceted communications professional with a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business and will become Director of Media Relations. Ms. McCullough brings expertise in public relations, media relations, crisis management, content strategy, and brand strategy. Ms. McCullough’s prior roles include Director of Communications at Coppin State University, Special Advisor for Communications at the State of Maryland’s Office of the Lieutenant Governor, and Chief Communications Officer at the Maryland Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention, Youth, and Victim Services, among others. Ms. McCullough has a strong background in multimedia storytelling and a history of effectively collaborating with local and national media outlets. She has contributed to meaningful placements with major news organizations, ensuring her principles maintain high visibility in a shifting media environment.
With these two additions, the Office of the Comptroller is well-positioned to enhance its engagement with the public, streamline communications, and fortify its relationship with the media.
