Reminder: Comptroller Lierman to Tour Hagerstown Businesses, Field House Site and Branch Office and Call Center

Comptroller to discuss VITA program with Del. Brooke Grossman and members of Washington County Library System, and tour and wrap up at Thick-N-Thin Brewing Co.

WHO:

Comptroller Brooke Lierman

WHAT:

On the 11th and final stop of her “Branching Out” tour of agency Branch Offices, Comptroller Brooke Lierman will tour the Hagerstown Branch Office and Call Center today. While in Washington County, the Comptroller will meet with Hagerstown business and community leaders to gain insight into their visionary ideas and enterprises and update them on the agency's initiatives.

Comptroller Lierman will begin at the Hagerstown Branch Office, where she will meet and talk to staff and taxpayers seeking assistance with their tax filings. Karen Grote is the branch manager. She then will visit the agency’s Call Center to discuss how the center handles calls from taxpayers during tax season and year-round. Amy Yeager is the call center manager.

Next, the Comptroller will stop by J’s Diner — an innovative breakfast destination for locals and visitors with everything made from scratch. The restaurant is owned by father-son team, Carlos and Joel Interiano.

The Comptroller then will join Hagerstown Mayor Tekesha Martinez and other city officials to tour the proposed site for an indoor sports facility — the Hagerstown Field House. Joining the tour will be City Administrator Scott Nicewarner, City Engineer Jim Bender, Public Works Director Eric Deike, and Accounting and Budget Manager Brooke Garver.

Next, Comptroller Lierman will join Del. Brooke Grossman, D-2B, along with representatives from the Washington County Library System to discuss bringing the IRS’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) services to the county. The meeting will be held at the office of the United Way of Washington County.

The Comptroller will end the day with a tour and wrap-up session at Thick-N-Thin Brewing Co. — described as an easygoing local gathering spot co-founded and owned by brothers Adam and Sassan Shaool. The brewery features craft beer, seltzers, and zero-alcohol options.
