Comptroller Lierman to Embark on Take a Look with Brooke Tour in Carroll County Friday Afternoon

Comptroller to tour Westminster pharmaceutical company, tour downtown businesses, and learn the history of the final resting place of the area’s prominent African Americans

WHO:

Comptroller Brooke Lierman

WHAT:

As part of her Take a Look With Brooke Tour, Comptroller Brooke Lierman will join the board of directors and management team of WES Pharma Inc., for a working lunch and tour of their plant. The pharmaceutical company develops and manufactures complex, specialty generics for U.S. markets. The company, which has operated for the past 10 years, has nearly 100 employees. Ranjeesh Gopinathan is the CEO.

Next, Comptroller Lierman will join Westminster Mayor Mona Becker and Councilmembers Greg Pecoraro and Dan Hoff on a walking tour of downtown businesses starting with Rudolph Girls Bookstore, owned by Ali Rudolph King and Nikki Rhodes-Whaley; followed by Cultivated, owned by Tiombé Page; and then, Covalent Spirits, owned by Jen Yang and Drew Cockley.

The Comptroller will end her day at Ellsworth Cemetery with members of the Carroll County Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). NAACP First Vice Chair Pam Zappardino will talk about the cemetery’s history as the final resting place for many of the area's prominent African American residents. The cemetery was created on December 21, 1876. In 2020, state funding provided for continued mapping of the cemetery and restoration of memorials.

On the Take a Look with Brooke Tours, Comptroller Lierman visits towns and communities throughout the state to learn more about the people, businesses, and community leaders who make Maryland a great place to live and work. On these tours, the Comptroller has the opportunity to see cutting-edge technologies, to talk with local entrepreneurs to take the pulse of the local economy, and to highlight places that contribute to a region’s quality of life.
