Comptroller Brooke Lierman to Visit Wheaton Branch Office Friday Morning

While touring Montgomery County, the Comptroller will meet with Latino and business development leaders and elected officials

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (March 28, 2023) - Comptroller Brooke Lierman will start the fourth stop on her statewide tour of Comptroller’s Branch Offices in Montgomery County Friday morning at the Wheaton Branch Office. The day-long visit will include meetings with community stakeholders, businesses, and elected leaders to learn about their visionary ideas and enterprises.

At the Wheaton office, Comptroller Lierman will meet with staff and talk with taxpayers seeking assistance with their tax filings. Rene’ Smith has been the Wheaton Branch manager for 35 years.

Next, she will join Emi Reyes, CEO of the Latino Economic Development Center (LEDC), and Javier Riva, program manager for LEDC, on a walking tour of three businesses: Los Cobanos Restaurant, owned by Mercedes Rodrigues; Kings Auto Care, owned by Robert King; and Triangle Jewelers & Repairs, owned by Mario Perla. The LEDC equips Latinos and other underserved communities with skills and financial tools to create a better future for their families and communities. Also joining the tour will be: Luisa Cardona, Regional Services Center Director for Midcounty; Gene Smith, Manager of the County’s Business Center; and Naddia Clute, Small Business Navigator.

Afterward, the Comptroller will meet with the Montgomery County Council to get an update on the county’s latest developments and issues. The council meeting will be live-streamed via local cable, YouTube, and Facebook.

She will then attend a working lunch with the Montgomery County Economic Development Corp. (MCEDC) leadership and other business leaders to learn about the local business community, economic growth, and future developments. Bill Tompkins is President and CEO of MCEDC and Brad Stewart is Senior Vice President.

Comptroller Lierman will wrap up her day with a visit with Jay Brinson, vice president of development at Federal Realty, a national real estate developer.
