Comptroller Lierman Announces Additions to Government Affairs Team
Legislative staff includes agency veteran, new personnel
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (January 25, 2023) — Comptroller Brooke Lierman today announced additional hires for her government affairs team, signaling a commitment to building deeper partnerships between the Comptroller’s Office and the General Assembly, as well as local and federal lawmakers.
In addition to the previously announced Director of Government Affairs Joe Francaviglia, Comptroller Lierman announced three other members of the legislative team.
Justin Hayes will serve as Director of State Affairs, tasked with leading the day-to-day management of state legislative initiatives for the agency. He is a veteran of the Comptroller’s Office, having held a similar position in the Franchot administration. Hayes has a wealth of knowledge that is a major asset to the Office, working in three different divisions during his six years with the agency and having previously worked for several federal lawmakers.
In a role that fulfills a campaign promise to more deeply engage with local and federal government partners, Eve Shuman will serve as the full-time Intergovernmental Affairs Director. She comes to the Comptroller’s Office having most recently served as the Prince George’s County Regional Director for U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen.
Caroline Bauk will assume the role of Government Affairs Associate. She will help to support the government affairs team and will work directly on numerous state and local matters in coordination with the state and intergovernmental directors. Bauk comes to the Comptroller’s Office having most recently worked for former House Majority Leader Eric Luedtke.
“In just a few short days of officially being on the job, it is clear there are so many opportunities where the Comptroller’s office can play a leading role in making the lives of Marylanders better,” said Comptroller Lierman. “ I am really excited about the team we are assembling who are committed to working hard on behalf of all Marylanders to build more prosperous families and communities.”
