Comptroller Franchot will begin Tuesday by presenting a proclamation to coordinator Tom Ayd and the volunteers of Beach Heroes-OC for their weekly efforts to remove trash from Ocean City's beachfront, keeping it beautiful for residents and visitors.
Later, the Comptroller will honor Pickles Pub, a landmark Ocean City restaurant for 33 years known for their award-winning wings, local craft beer selection and the famous Original Pickle Shot. Locally owned by Justin and Brittney Acita, Pickles supports numerous philanthropic causes and local organizations, hosting fundraisers and giving back to the community in various ways.
Next, Mr. Franchot will stop by Ocean City Organics to recognize the independent health food store and apothecary that sources many of their products from local growers and makers. Open since 1989, longtime employees Kristie Williams and Heather Layton purchased the store one year ago and are committed to the same values of superior service, affordable prices and healthy living that customers have come to expect.
Finally, Comptroller Franchot will present the 2021 William Donald Schaefer Helping People Award for Wicomico County to Women Supporting Women, a Salisbury-based organization that provides free resources to people battling or who have survived breast cancer throughout the Lower Shore counties. Services, all of which are free, include prosthetic breast fittings, wigs, educational tote bags, lift chair loaner program and community related events to educate the public.
