Comptroller Franchot to Speak Wednesday at Grand Opening of Rockville Food Recovery Center 

New facility to increase food recovery and donations operations

WHAT:

Comptroller Franchot will speak at the grand opening and ribbon cutting Wednesday afternoon of the new Food Recovery Center of Nourish Now, a nonprofit food bank in Rockville. The new center will serve as an additional facility for food recovery and donations operations.

Since 2011, the food bank’s mission is to address food waste and food insecurity in Montgomery County. It collects surplus food from its partners, including restaurants, grocers and caterers, and packages and redistributes the donated food to neighbors in need. Nourish Now also provides meals and essential items to families, youth groups, the elderly and shelters and food pantries.

The group’s Chairman Mike Maloney, Executive Director Brett Meyers and Montgomery County Councilmember Andrew Friedson will join the Comptroller.
