Comptroller Franchot on Wednesday afternoon will present a proclamation to the owner of a popular flower stand set up in front of Reynolds Tavern in Annapolis.
Darim Traore, who has operated Flowers by Darim on Church Circle for more than 14 years, sells fresh arrangements of daisies, spider mums and roses to local residents, area workers and visitors to the state capital. His broad smile and enthusiasm is well known among customers and passers-by.
Afterward, the Comptroller will take a tour of the Banneker-Douglass Museum, named for famous Black Marylanders Benjamin Banneker and Frederick Douglass. Opened in 1984, the museum formerly housed the historic Mount Moriah African Methodist Episcopal Church.
The Board of Public Works last month approved $75,000 for capital improvements to the museum, which followed a $100,000 appropriation last year for interior rehabilitation.
After the tour, Comptroller Franchot will present a proclamation to the museum's executive director, Chanel Compton.
