Comptroller Franchot to Speak at Schaefer's 100th Birthday Celebration

Event will be held indoors at Maryland Science Center due to rain

WHAT:

Comptroller Franchot today will join local and state dignitaries, community members, civic leaders and others to commemorate the 100th birthday of William Donald Schaefer, who served four terms as a Baltimore City councilman (one as president), four terms as mayor, and two terms each as Maryland governor and state comptroller

Schaefer, who was born on Nov. 2, 1921, served in public office from 1955 to 2011 with only a four-year hiatus from 1995 to 1999. He passed away in 2011.

Coordinated by the Schaefer Center for Public Policy at the University of Baltimore, Governor Hogan and Mayor Scott will proclaim November 2nd as William Donald Schaefer Day in the state and city. Comptroller Franchot will present a proclamation in recognition of the event.
