Comptroller Franchot to Speak at CASH Campaign in Baltimore, Visit Harford and Cecil Counties

Proclamations to be presented to high school sophomore, winning coffee shop, vineyard and grand opening for new brewery

WHO:

Comptroller Peter Franchot

WHAT:

Comptroller Peter Franchot will begin Friday at the CASH (Creating Assets, Savings and Hope) Campaign of Maryland event at the Central Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore to talk about the significance of the Earned Income Tax Credit for working families on National EITC Awareness Day. The nonprofit CASH Campaign of Maryland works with partners across the state to promote programs, products, and policies that increase the financial security of low-to-moderate income individuals and families across the state.

The Comptroller then will travel to Havre de Grace High School to present a proclamation to Connor Sheffield, a sophomore with a rare digestive condition that sends him frequently to the hospital, but has not stifled his passion for quarter midget racing. Through videos Connor has created, he has raised awareness for a Pediatric Motility Center at Johns Hopkins Hospital with doctors and equipment to find a cure for the disease he is fighting.

Next the Comptroller will stop by Chesapeake Bay Coffee Company in North East, which took second place in a Comptroller Facebook “Best Coffee in Maryland” competition. Mr. Franchot will present a proclamation to the owners honoring their success for the past five years.

Afterward, the Comptroller will head to Dove Valley Vineyard in Rising Sun, where he will present a proclamation to the Hepbron family recognizing their award-winning wines and economic contributions to the community. This multi-generational, family-owned and operated farm and vineyard also plans to add a brewery in the near future.

He will end the day at the grand opening of Bog Turtle Brewery in Rising Sun, where he will speak and present a proclamation to two of the six owners, Steve Applegate and Chris Davis. Due to demand, Bog Turtle moved from Oxford, Pa., to Rising Sun. It offers a variety of beers in growlers and kegs.
