MDOT SHA TO IMPROVE ROADWAY SURFACE ON MD 32 IN CARROLL COUNTY

(September 22, 2020) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin paving MD 32 (Sykesville Road) between MacBeth Way and Main Street tomorrow, Wednesday, at 8 p.m. The overnight work is scheduled Sunday night through Friday morning from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. and is expected to take two weeks to complete. Crews will also work from 10 p.m. on Friday night through 7 a.m. on Saturday. Motorists should expect single lane closures and a flagging operation during overnight work hours.

The paving is one of the final steps in a $5.8 million project to enhance safety and reduce congestion for tens of thousands of businesses, including the National Guard Freedom Readiness Center currently under construction.

The enhancements that will improve congestion, include a second travel lane on northbound MD 32, and a new two-way left turn lane through the project limits, a span of nearly one mile. As part of the work, crews also extended a large structural culvert to a Piney Branch tributary.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and, look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.
