Carroll County Health Department Update April 3, 2020

Westminster, MD (4/3/2020) – The Carroll County Health Department today announced six additional cases of COVID-19 in the county.

Four of the cases are community members: a man in his 20s, a woman in her 40s, a man in his 50s, and a woman in her 50s. One additional resident, a woman in her 80s, has been found to be positive at Carroll Lutheran Village; bringing the total to 7 residents. One additional staff member at Carroll Lutheran Village, a woman in her 60s, has been found to be positive; bringing the total to 2 staff members.

The Health Department and the Maryland Department of Health continue to work closely with Carroll Lutheran Village to discuss infection control, conservation of personal protective equipment, disinfection and cleaning, patient care and isolation, and communications. Carroll Lutheran Village continues to monitor all residents and team members and require anyone exhibiting symptoms to self-isolate and seek medical care if needed.

The Carroll County Health Department today also announced the sixth death from Pleasant View Nursing Home due to COVID-19. The individual was a man in his 80s with underlying medical conditions. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones.

All resident test results have been reported for Pleasant View Nursing Home. Twenty-four staff at Pleasant View have tested positive. Health Department staff continue to follow up with individuals as needed. Support continues to be provided to the facility by many local and state partners.

The Carroll County Health Department held a conference call Monday, March 30th with the county’s long-term care facilities to increase their preparedness for COVID-19. On March 10, the Maryland Department of Health issued guidance for long-term and continuing care facilities.
