Volunteers to Count Homeless in Carroll County
Westminster, MD, Monday, January 14, 2019 - On Tuesday, January 22nd, 2019, the Circle of Caring Homelessness Board will conduct a Point-in-Time (PIT) count of people who are homeless or are at risk of being homeless in Carroll County. This count helps Carroll County determine the extent of homelessness in the community, conduct outreach to homeless persons and obtain grant funding to support homeless assistance and homelessness prevention programs.
Carroll County’s homeless count and survey coincides with the national effort by the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to conduct annual homeless counts across the country during the last 10 days of January. In Carroll County, the PIT is planned, coordinated, and carried out by the Circle of Caring Homelessness Board.
To complete the count, teams of trained volunteers canvass locations throughout Carroll County, including soup kitchens, social service agencies, food pantries, schools, libraries, encampments, and emergency shelters, to interview those who are homeless or who are at risk of becoming homeless.
In addition, a Community Resource Fair is held on the day of the PIT allowing citizens in need to connect with more than 15 agencies. The Resource Fair will be held at Grace Lutheran Church (21 Carroll Street, Westminster, MD) from 10 am to 1 pm.
If weather forces a cancellation of the PIT activities on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, the PIT will be held on Tuesday, January 29th, 2019.
