Boys and Girls Club of Westminster
Project Receives $400,000
Westminster, MD, Friday, October 6, 2017 – Yesterday, the Board of Carroll County Commissioners
(BCC) voted unanimously to accept a Fiscal Year 2018 Community Development
Block Grant (CDBG) award of $400,000 for the Boys and Girls Club of Westminster
capital project. The funding is received from the U. S. Department of Housing
and Urban Development (HUD) and passed through the Maryland Department of
Housing and Community Development (MD DHCD).
Carroll County was awarded
$400,000 for the Boys and Girls Club of Westminster project. The funding will
be used to help the agency expand their capacity on Main Street in Westminster
with the construction of a new gymnasium.
Once the new gym is added, the location will have the capacity for 600
children per day.
In addition, the club is in
the process of renovating the existing 12,041 square foot building. Renovations should be complete in December
2017 with an expected opening date of January 2, 2018. The expanded capacity
will allow all 75 families to be removed from the current waiting list.
The project was well received
by the state and the county was encouraged to apply again for the next round of
CDBG awards.
Yesterday’s open session can
be viewed on the Carroll
County Government Meeting Portal.
