Carroll County’s Reagan Room is Rededicated

Reagan Room

Westminster, Thursday, February 9, 2017 – This morning, the Carroll County Board of Commissioners revealed a refreshed Ronald Reagan Room, meeting room 003 in the County Office Building. The room was rededicated with a celebration and unveiling of a new display of President Ronald Reagan artifacts.

The display, organized by members of the Celebrating America Committee, was donated by the Thomas S. Gordon Family of Westminster and includes personal and political memorabilia. Photographs of President Reagan, taken by White House photographer Barry Thumma, now hang on the wall. A presidential Christmas card, Inaugural Ball invitation and ticket, various campaign buttons, campaign jelly beans and a collection of books about President Reagan as well as other collectibles are also exhibited.

Tom Gordon III

Tom Gordon, III, representing the Thomas S. Gordon Family was on hand for the debut of the display and was a featured speaker. Mr. Gordon said, “History and its artifacts belong to all of us; and as a fifth generation collector, my family and I have always believed that history needs to be shared. It is a disservice to us all when it is unable to be seen nor available for research. History allows us the opportunity to learn from the past in the hopes for a better future. By following the map of history, we walk the steps of our ancestors thereby paving the path for future generations.”

Commissioner Weaver

Commissioner Richard Weaver, President of the Board of County Commissioners stated, “We are honored to be here today to rededicate this room to the 40th President of the United States, President Ronald Reagan. The County is thrilled to reveal these new artifacts for the appreciation of our citizens and value the tremendous contributions made by the Thomas S. Gordon family. We are proud to work in partnership with the Celebrating America initiative in honoring our nation’s history.”
