"Working to make Baltimore Second to None"

Dear Leaders,

After the Council voted not to bring Food Facility Ratings to Baltimore, I vowed to continue the fight for transparency in Health Inspections. Monday night I introduced legislation that would require any food facility closed by the Health Department to immediately post a document stating why they have been closed. From 2013 to 2014 over 200 facilities were closed as a result of inspection but citizens only avenue for seeing why is visiting the Health Department's website a month later. In 2015 this is not acceptable. This legislation also calls for the Health Department to use its website and social media outlets to immediately post closures. I look forward to having your support as I push for transparency that will benefit us all. This will not be easy but I am up to the task.

Sincerely,

Councilman Brandon M. Scott

Second Saturdays Leadership Academy

Recently, our Second Saturdays Leadership Academy Scholars partcipated in a stream cleanup of Moore's Run. The scholars joined members of the Frankford Improvement Association, students from Hazelwood Elementary Middle School and Baltimore City Recreation and Parks for the cleanup. After learning about the stream all went out for a day of removing debris and invasive plants from the stream. Our Second Saturdays Scholars understand that community service is a important part of becoming a leader in their community.
