"Working to Make Baltimore Second to None"

Dear Leaders,

Another great summer has come to an end here in Baltimore. This summer was filled with lots of great activity in our neighborhoods. Children in our summer camps experienced, Ravens training camp, Orioles games and other fun. Families were able to enjoy Friday night movies in Herring Run Park and at Lake Montebello. Basketball fans in Parkside and Belair Edison came out to watch the Spurs dethrone the Heat. Despite all of the positive energy that was displayed there was still too much senseless violence on our streets. However, citizens across the city decided to become engaged in the fight against violence in their neighborhoods. This summer I joined the men of the 300MenMarch Street Engagement Unit each Friday night as we walked in Belair Edison spreading love and our message of nonviolence. Sacrificing every Friday night in the summer is not an easy task, but it is necessary for the sake of our community. The Street Engagement Unit was received with love from the entire Belair Edison community as they worked to make a difference in the lives of the residents. Summer may be over but the fight for our communities continues. The men of the 300MenMarch Street Engagement Unit will remain involved in neighborhoods through many different channels. Today I am asking you to do the same. As we move into fall I am asking that we not fall into complacency, but that we fall into more action in our communities. No one can do it alone but we can all do something! Plan a neighborhood cleanup, join a school parent and community group, become a mentor or visit schools and read to children. None of these actions are earth shattering but every small act is a step toward a better Baltimore.

 Sincerely,

Councilman Brandon M. Scott
2nd District - Baltimore City Council
