Mayor Rawlings-Blake Celebrates Groundbreaking of Morrell Park Community Center

Community center represents the second groundbreaking this month for new centers based on criteria from the Mayor’s Task Force on Recreation Centers. Today, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake joined Council President Bernard C. “Jack” Young, the Department of Recreation and Parks, and members of the Morrell Park & St. Pauls Improvement Association and the Morrell Park Recreation Council to celebrate the groundbreaking for the new Morrell Park Community Center. This is the second groundbreaking this month for a new center designed to meet the criteria of the Mayor’s Task Force on Recreation Centers. Two weeks ago, the Mayor and Council President celebrated the groundbreaking of the Rita R. Church Pavilion and Community Center in Clifton Park. The Morrell Park Community Center will be located at 2651 Tolley Street. In order to meet the Mayor’s Task Force recommendations, the center will be twice as large as originally planned. The center will be approximately 17,000 square feet and will incorporate new standards for size, amenities, and programming.
