Community Leaders To Hold 2nd Annual 300 Men March on North Avenue

Today, Friday, July 11th 2014 at 6:30 pm, 300 or more men will once again take to the streets marching from the 3400 block of West North Avenue and ending at the 2500 block of East North Avenue. Last year we accomplished the unity of over 600 men marching as a symbol of strength and conviction to combat the growing violence in our Baltimore neighborhoods. Our work continued after the march as we started a weekly anti –violence outreach engagement in the targeted violent neighborhoods.  

Councilman Brandon Scott and Community Leader Munir Bahar, organizers of the event, are once again calling on the support of men citywide to take direct action to decrease violence in Baltimore neighborhoods. To date Baltimore has a record of 92 homicides, about 25 less than this same time in 2013. However, organizers are persistent in driving these numbers even lower.  

More than 60 organizations, including mosques, churches, fraternities, business and political groups participated in last year’s march. Many are expected to be present this year also. Also participating men are asked to bring with them their sons, nephews, mentees, male students or grandsons to include youth in on the historic event. Our themes for this year’s march include unity, diversity, positive male engagement and leadership by example.  The 300 Men March Movement has gained the support of many leaders including City Council members, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, Baltimore City Police Commissioner Batts, Johns Hopkins Office of Youth Violence Prevention, Congressman Elijah Cummings, Dr. Freeman Hraboswki, the Guardian Angels and dozens of other civic organizations.
