Dear Leaders,
I am extremely honored to have joined 300 plus men for the second annual #300menmarch. Men and young warriors thank you for answering the call. Men please join me in thanking the queens who supported us throughout our journey last night, sacrificing so that we could enjoy the experience. Lastly, Men remember the true work begins today! Every one of us must continue to be seen and heard in our communities! Every able bodied man in #Baltimore must be positively engaged in their community and most importantly in the lives of our young people. If a male is not meeting that standard then they are not a man in the true sense of the word. No one is coming to save us! Only we can save ourselves. I love you all, now let's continue to work.
Sincerely,
Councilman Brandon M. Scott
2nd District - Baltimore City Council

Dear Community, I want to start off with some good results. Tuesday evening a victim was robbed and pistol whipped in the area of 4900 Harford Road. We received a few calls for discharging of a firearm about the same time. When officers arrived the victim was not there. However, due to the fact that we had a few calls, we started an extensive canvassing of the area. Officers located two suspects running from the area. Both suspects were apprehended and questioned. A short distance away a handgun was located. Several minutes later the victim walked into Good Sam Hospital with head injuries. The victim should be fine and the one suspect was charged with the robbery. This is another example of calls to 911 paying off. The multiple calls gave more credibility to the discharging. In turn, the officers did an excellent canvass and located the Suspects and handgun before we even located a victim. This is another example of Great TEAMWORK by the Community and the BPD. ALERT - Recently we have experienced several burglaries where the suspects pushed in a window air conditioner and made entry into the house through the window. One of the Suspects even climbed on something to reach a higher window. If you have window units please secure them as best you can. I have them in my house and I screwed the unit to the window frame. They may still push the window unit in but it will break the window and maybe the noise will get someone’s attention or scare them off. You can learn more about how to reduce your risk of being the victim of a burglary at: http://www.necop.com/PDF/PreventBurglaries0614.pdf You can view the weekly crime numbers for the City as well as the NE District via this link: https://data.baltimorecity.gov/Public-Safety/Summarized-Crime-Data-By-District-Week-27/4nh3-w6zf As you can see from the crime numbers the City is doing well compared to 2013. We still have a lot of work to do but at the mid-point of 2104 we are on the right track. The NE is doing well thanks to the cooperation between the Community and the BPD. However, there are a few areas we need to make some improvements. I want to end 2014 down in every single crime category. We have work to do with the stolen autos and larceny from auto but with your help we will do it. The Larcenies from Auto still irritate me simply because last week almost 80% of the vehicles were left unlocked or had a window down. Several of them involved taking a wallet that contained ID’s, credit cards and worst of all, Social Security Cards!! Please lock your vehicle, remove your valuables and arm your alarm if you have one. A lot of people don’t realize that leaving your vehicle unlocked affects not only you but all your neighbors for two reasons. 1) It will attract the thief and he will come back. 2) If an officer has to take a report for a larceny from auto or stolen auto, they will be out of service for 30-60 minutes. That means your neighbors will be without an officer patrolling the neighborhood for almost an hour. If an officer has to take 3-4 a shift then he basically spends half his time writing reports and doing investigations instead of doing proactive patrol. We need the officers doing proactive/preventive patrol as much as possible. You can learn how to reduce your risk of being the victim of a larceny from auto at: http://www.necop.com/PDF/preventlarceny.pdf Stolen Autos were down last week but we could have done a lot better if some of the victims would not have left their keys in the vehicle. Please do not leave a key in your vehicle. When the vehicle is recovered if a key is found in the ignition, the insurance company may hold you claim. If someone wants to steal your vehicle make it difficult for them. The thieves want an easy target. Let them pick someone else. You can learn how to reduce your risk of being the victim of a stolen auto at: http://www.necop.com/PDF/preventstolenautos.pdf Please call 911 with the first sight of anything suspicious. Even if you don’t know your neighbors, please look out for them. Councilman Scott shared a story with me about a neighbor of his who told him they watched someone steal a bike off a balcony. When he asked if they called 911 they told him no because they don’t know those people! I know many of you are shaking your head just like we did when we heard it. If the Community doesn’t look out for each other we cannot win the battle on crime. Let’s work together to make Baltimore a safer place. Please have a safe weekend and please call 911 if you see anything suspicious in your neighborhood. Thank you for your continued support!!! Rich Richard J. Worley, Jr Major – Northeast District Baltimore Police Department
