Dear Leaders,
This past Saturday I kicked off my 2nd Saturday's Leadership Academy at Vanguard Middle School and it was an amazing day! 2nd Saturday’s
Leadership Academy is an academic enrichment and
leadership development program designed to promote and facilitate the development of intelligent,
ethical, honorable, and trustworthy leaders. The program offers a series of workshops
that grounds students in the centrality of leadership and learning. My hopes are that the students participation in the program will develop them into leaders through improving their skills in the areas of communication, leadership development, building relationships, decision making, collaboration and critical thinking.
This past week's kick off session of 2nd Saturday's, I was able to get to know the students who were selected to be apart of the program on a personal level and inform them on what they should expect from the program. The students were beyond amazing, intelligent and extremely energetic. We had a great time learning about each other and bonding through Icebreakers. I look forward to the next session of 2nd Saturdays Leadership Academy and I am honored to be able to assist cultivating the next generation of leaders in the City of Baltimore!
Sincerely,
Councilman Brandon M. Scott 2nd District - Baltimore City Council

Recently, I was able to serve as the co-host for Mentor Foundation USA's Shattering the Myths Around Substance Abuse Conference. Students from MERVO, City Neighbors and Bluford Jemison High Schools partcipated.
The students were very engaged as they received information from and asked questions of experts including Dr. Lonise Bias and Dr. Antonelle Bonci.
Our students then blew us all away with their poems during the poetry slam that showed a glimpse into the lives of our young people who are so heavily impacted by substance abuse.
I am very grateful to Mentor Foundation USA and my co-host Jamila Sams for the opportunity. This conference will air on Comcast On Demand in the coming months. I ask that you take a look and listen to the voices of these young people as they share their thoughts and feelings about substance abuse.

I was honored to participate in Baltimore Veterans Day Parade to honor those who have served to protect our freedom. Veterans Day is a federal holiday dedicated to the remembrance of those who fought in wars for America and its citizens. I am so thankful for their bravery and their dedication to our great nation.
