"Working to Make Baltimore 2nd to None!"

Dear Leaders,

This past week, the 2nd District became the center of the city’s operation as we played host to Mayor Rawlings-Blake and team for the 2nd District Cabinet in the Community. Cabinet in the Community is a opportunity for citizens to see government in action. Citizens in attendance had the chance to observe a live meeting of the mayor and her cabinet where agencies discussed work being conducted by their agency in the 2nd District.

In addition, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, had the opportunity to spend the day in "The Life of Councilman Brandon M. Scott" which proved to be quite a challenge for her! To start the day, we visited Moravia Park Elementary School, where we read to students for my "2nd Reads Program" alongside some of my 300MenMarch Movement brothers, Cory McCray and Major Worley. Next we attended the ribbon cutting and grand opening of 7-Eleven located at 6232 Belair Road. Following the ribbon cutting , we surprised students from Hazelwood Elementary School who participated in the fall cleanup with coupons for free 7-Eleven Slurpees. We then did walk throughs with concerned citizens in the Gardenville and Frankford Communities before moving on to help students with homework at the Goodnow Community Center's after school program.

A community is  a place where we must look out for one another and we must take pride in it ensuring that it stays clean and that all residents are involved and moving towards excellence! I am elated to represent the 2nd district, a community that is comprised of neighborhoods that are committed to excellence and being 2nd to None!

Sincerely,

Councilman Brandon M. Scott
2nd District - Baltimore City Council

Annual Mayor's Fall Clean-Up in Frankford

Fall cleanup

Each October, the Mayor hosts a fall clean up, which is a time when communities across the city come out and team up in order to clean up and make a better Baltimore! This past Saturday, I was able to help with the Frankford Improvement Association's Fall Clean up with Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and 6th Graders from Hazelwood Elementary/Middle School! We had a great time as we joined forces in order to make Frankford even cleaner! I challenge you all to make cleaning your neighborhood a daily activity and strive towards making Baltimore great!

300MenMarch Against Domestic Violence

The Month of October is nationally recognized as Domestic Violence Prevention Month and this year the 300MenMarch lead a Domestic Violence Prevention March to take a stand against violence towards women and children.

The March took place on October 25, 2013 at 8PM at the corner of Orleans and Gay St. We marched into downtown Baltimore to our destination of Pratt and Light Street. There we had a 20-30 minute public demonstration. This was a powerful event, as many came out to support the cause and take a stand against domestic violence.

As a community, it is critical that we take a stand to show that domestic violence is unacceptable, and is something that we will not stand for! I want to thank everyone that came out, and I encourage you to continue to spread the message.

Halloween Surprise at Glenmount!

H

On Halloween, I decided to surprise a few classes at Glenmount Elementary School with a sweet surprise. During a prior visit to the school, the students asked me to come back dressed as superman. In honoring their wishes, I came back as Super Scott! The kids were SUPER excited, and I was SUPER thrilled to be able to make their day!

Haz Mat Is Back!
Baltimore City’s Hazardous Waste monthly collection events continue next month at the Northwest Citizen Convenience Center located at 2840 Sisson Street.
These events provide an opportunity for Baltimore City residents (ONLY) to dispose of hazardous household materials such as oil-based paints, pesticides, herbicides, car and household batteries, drain cleaners, gasoline, pool chemicals, and many other items. Latex paint is NOT hazardous waste; it can be dried up and the cans put out for regular trash collection.
Residents must show proof of city residency, e.g. a driver's license, telephone bill or tax bill, before they can drop off any hazardous items. Residents must also be able to identify the material. Materials that will not be collected include asbestos, ammunition, fire extinguishers, industrial and medical wastes, and radioactive materials, including smoke alarms with a radioactive symbol.
Businesses and private haulers must contract with a certified vendor to dispose of hazardous waste.
Residents can go to the Northwest Citizen Convenience Center the first Friday and Saturday of every month from April through October.
·         October 26 & 27 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
·         November 23 & 24 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
