BALTIMORE, Md. (August 14, 2013)—Today, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and CBAC Gaming, LLC, the owner and operator of the Horseshoe Casino Baltimore, announced that Kanika Feaster has been hired as the Horseshoe Baltimore recruitment coordinator. Feaster, who assumed the new role on August 7, 2013, will help identify qualified city residents to apply for the 1,700 positions that will be created by the $442 million downtown gaming facility. CBAC Gaming is providing the funding to pay for the City of Baltimore position, which will report directly to the Mayor’s Office of Employment Development’s (MOED) business services manager. “As Baltimore gears up for the opening of our amazing new casino, I am pleased to announce that Kanika will join us to ensure that Baltimore Residents will have every opportunity to join the Horseshoe Baltimore team,” said Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake. “Her energetic persona and wealth of experience with community outreach will serve our city and citizens well as we continue to promote local hiring through our Employ Baltimore – Ready to Work for You initiative.” “We’re pleased to welcome Kanika to Horseshoe Baltimore,” said Horseshoe Baltimore Senior Vice President and General Manager Chad Barnhill. “Working in close association with the Mayor’s Office of Employment Development, Kanika will play an integral role in shaping a community outreach program that informs city residents about the 1,700 jobs that will be available at our world-class facility and encourages qualified candidates to apply. Horseshoe Baltimore will be Charm City’s casino, and we want city residents to be employed there.” In her new role, Feaster will manage and coordinate the development and implementation of a comprehensive community outreach and recruitment plan to prepare Baltimore City residents for, and assist in connecting them to, the employment opportunities at Horseshoe Baltimore, which is slated to open in the third quarter of 2014. The position, which is full-time with benefits, was established as part of a memorandum of understanding—approved by the Board of Estimates on December 12, 2012—between the Baltimore City Mayor’s Office of Employment Development (MOED) and CBAC Gaming. Funded by CBAC, the position will leverage MOED’s full range of employment readiness and job seeker services. Feaster, a Baltimore City resident, most recently served as program manager for LIFE, Inc., where her many Baltimore-based responsibilities included job recruitment, training, and supervision, staff management, and client recruitment. She also oversaw site supervision, budgeting, and strategic planning for a program that is a partner to the Maryland Department of Education and the state’s Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Feaster has also served in relevant capacities for Digit All Systems and Educate Online, both in Baltimore. She is a graduate of Temple University in Philadelphia.
