Dear Leaders,
Last week we celebrated the “Grand Opening” of YSP (Youth
Sports Program) at Furley Recreation Center. YSP is now one of seven community
organizations who have partnered with Baltimore City Recreation and Parks to
operate Recreation Centers. YSP has provided quality recreational and
educational opportunities to the families of Northeast Baltimore since 2003
without a physical home. During that time, YSP used Moravia Park, Furley and Brehms Lane as
programming sites. This summer I received dozens of letters from YSP
participants asking that I help find a permanent home for YSP, a program that
means so much to them. I am honored that we have made a dream
come true for the entire YSP family, while ensuring that the doors of Furley
Recreation never closed. Recreation
is not about a building. Recreation is about making sure that quality services are provided to
the community particularly to young people. Community partnerships are vital to
the future of our city and we must continue to utilize them in as many ways as
possible. YSP is an organization run by members of our community and I am proud
to have them as a partner that will provide quality services.
Sincerely, Councilman
Brandon M. Scott

Recently, Councilman Scott attended the Shutdown Academy
Awards Banquet. The Shutdown
Academy is an
organization that was founded by three Baltimore native football stars retired
NFL Safety Keion Carpenter, and current NFL players Bryant Johnson and Aaron
Maybin. The goal of this organization is to empower and assist young people in
reaching their fullest potential through instilling in them values of
integrity, honor and respect. They teach the students through classroom
instruction, athletic training, and mentoring.
At the awards banquet,
over 100 kids were recognized for both their athletic and academic successes. Parents and volunteers were awarded as well. Fore more information on Shutdown Academy visit www.shutdownacademy.org

 During
the week of Valentines Day, Councilman Scott decided to host a Week of Love which
purpose was to highlight the need for Baltimore
to become more unified as a city. He traveled throughout the 2nd district to
spread different forms of love including baking cookies with students at Goodnow
Community Center, passing out valentine treats to students at Highlandtown
Elementary School, and also honoring some constituents with resolutions for
their positive work in the community just to name a few.
