Mayor Brandon M. Scott Announces Continued Reductions in Homicides and Nonfatal Shootings Through Month of November
BALTIMORE, MD (Monday, December 1, 2025) — Today, Mayor Brandon M. Scott announced that shootings and homicides in Baltimore City have continued to decline through this morning. In November, the City saw 15 homicides and 18 shootings. As of this morning, compared to this time last year Baltimore has seen a 29.8% decrease in homicides and a 25.2% decline in non-fatal shootings.
“This progress is the direct result of our entire CVI ecosystem — the brave men and women of the Baltimore Police Department, our community violence intervention ecosystem, the State’s Attorney’s Office, my Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement, the Office of the Attorney General, and most importantly, our residents — working toward a shared vision for a safer Baltimore,” said Mayor Brandon M. Scott. “As we enter the last month of the year, we are doubling down on our work to continue this progress into 2026 and beyond. One life lost to violence is one too many.”
There have been 127 homicides and 288 nonfatal shootings in 2025, 54 fewer homicides and 97 fewer nonfatal shootings compared to this time period last year. 127 homicides represents the fewest number of homicides Baltimore has seen on record since at least 1970.
Baltimore’s Group Violence Reduction Strategy (GVRS), a key partnership between BPD, the Mayor’s Office, and prosecutors in the State’s Attorney’s Office and Office of the Attorney General, which focuses on violent social networks responsible for driving the majority of violence in Baltimore, has seen success balancing services and accountability where appropriate. Together, they work to get those at the very highest risk of being involved in violence to put down the guns and change their behaviors. As of November 25, 2025, GVRS has led to over 577 arrests and connected over 334 individuals to life coaching and wraparound services through YAP, Inc., and Roca.
Additionally, as of December 1, 2025, Baltimore Police Department officers have seized over 2,300 firearms this year.
Crime continues to drop across other major categories. As of November 29, 2025, aggravated assaults are down 11%, auto thefts are down 29%, carjackings are down 36%, and robberies are down 29% compared to this time last year.
