MOHS, Citywide Outreach Efforts in Penn North Community
MOHS sprang into action when we learned of the tragic mass overdose incident in the Penn North neighborhood in Baltimore City in July. Since that time, MOHS staff and outreach teams have been assisting in overdose prevention efforts by canvassing the neighborhoods distributing Narcan and Fentanyl testing strips, along with connecting residents in need to shelter, mental health services, and substance use treatment. We remain committed to helping our neighbors and creating safe and healthy communities.

Happy Labor Day, Baltimore – Shelter Hotline Will Be Closed on Sept. 1
In observance of the Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 1, 2025, the Baltimore City Shelter Hotline will be temporarily closed. To access emergency shelter during this time, reach out to the shelters directly.
MOHS Code Red Season Ends on September 15
MOHS' Code Red Extreme Heat Alert season officially ends on Sunday, September 15, 2025. We want to thank our partners at the Baltimore City Health Department, Office of Emergency Management, the MOHS Emergency Services team, and all of our cooling center partners for their collaboration in yet another successful Code Red season in which we acted as a resource to all city residents who needed a break from the heat!

Feel the charm, hear the beat! The Mayor’s Office of Arts, Culture, and Entertainment announced the return of the 4th Annual Charm City Live Music Festival on War Memorial Plaza (outside of City Hall) on Saturday, September 20, 2025 from 12 noon to 9:00 p.m. The one-day festival will feature top national acts including Lucky Daye, The Dream, and Jeffrey Osborne. The Maryland Affordable Housing Trust (MAHT) grant application is now open for Round 51 (SFY26)! Nonprofits, public housing authorities, County and local governments, and for-profit organizations are all eligible to apply.
The application deadline is Monday, September 11, 2025.

The France-Merrick Foundation has recently announced a new initiative called "Meet the Moment Fund" which aims to prevent or address disruptions that negatively impact essential community needs and our nonprofit ecosystem.

Dear Baltimore,
I continue to be reminded that it is my privilege to serve as the Executive Director of Homeless Services for the City of Baltimore because of partners like you.
As we navigate this unprecedented season, which feels like an attack on people experiencing homelessness, we remain united that our goal is to increase housing and provide clients with a safe place to call home. I remain encouraged that we are united in our position that we will not criminalize homelessness, but we will work together to provide clients with the necessary resources and support they need for long-term success.
