Executive Letter: Supporting Our Children During the Back to School Season
Dear Baltimore,
It is time for our beautiful students to go back to school! MOHS is dedicated to being an access point for all residents, especially the bright students and families we serve in our shelters every day. The start of the school year represents new beginnings and opportunities for our students to succeed which is why we decided to have a friendly competition with MOHS staff this month to see how many donations we can collect to help our students kick off the school year right and lessen the financial burden for their parents. I am proud and thankful to our staff who participated in the competition for a great cause, as these donations will benefit the hundreds of school-aged children we serve in our shelters as well as other children in need in our greater community.
In service, Ernestina Simmons, LCSW-C Executive Director
MOHS is a proud supporter of our City School students, and this season we participated in various back to school resource events across the city, including the Mayor’s Annual Back to School event. MOHS enjoyed engaging and providing resources to parents, and distributing free school supplies to students!

MOHS Thanks Providers for Assistance During Hurricane Debby
Earlier this month, MOHS activated emergency operations to offer shelter to vulnerable residents during the severe weather conditions brought on by the remnants of Hurricane Debby. We successfully provided shelter to many residents in need on the evening of Friday, August 9, 2024. Thank you to all of our partnering city agencies and especially our shelter providers: Weinberg Housing & Resource Center, Sarah’s Hope, and TIME Organization for your service and collaboration!
Happy Labor Day!
MOHS wishes all residents a safe and enjoyable Labor Day! As a reminder – the Baltimore City Shelter Hotline will be temporarily closed on Monday, September 2, 2024. To access emergency shelter during this time, contact City-funded shelters directly or call 2-1-1.
