Mayor Brandon M. Scott Swears in Craig B. Jeter to Lead the Bureau of Solid Waste

Today, Mayor Brandon M. Scott swore in Craig B. Jeter to lead the Bureau of Solid Waste. Mr. Jeter has been serving as Acting Bureau Head since July 2023.

“Today, we officially congratulate Craig Jeter on his appointment to this prestigious position,” said Interim Director Richard J. Luna. “The Mayor and City Council affirmed our sentiments that Mr. Jeter's combined experience as a manager in local government and in the solid waste industry is precisely what's needed to champion the City's solid waste efforts.”

Mr. Jeter has worked in the solid waste industry since he was 14 years old with his family’s trash business in Boston. Throughout his career, Mr. Jeter has worked for Fortune 500 Waste Management Companies, including Waste Management Inc. and Republic Services. Mr. Jeter has spent the last ten years working for Fairfax County Government. Most recently, he served as Business Operations Manager for the Fairfax Government Wastewater Treatment Plant.

“I am excited to serve the City of Baltimore and continue the pathway to establish the Department of Public Works as a best-in-class agency,” Mr. Jeter said.

Among Mr. Jeter’s key priorities will be to prepare the agency to implement weekly recycling in the first quarter of calendar year 2024, pending the arrival of additional recycling crews and new trucks. In addition, Mr. Jeter will be responsible for executing the Baltimore City 10-Year Solid Waste Management Plan (SWMP). The SWMP is a regulatory requirement submitted to the Maryland Department of Environment (MDE) to map operational needs, constraints, and improvements for waste management within the City for the next 10 years.
