Baltimore’s Continuum of Care Receives $26 Million in HUD CoC Program Competition
Baltimore, MD - On Tuesday, March 28, 2023, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced the Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 Continuum of Care (CoC) funding awards. Baltimore City’s CoC was awarded over $26 million that will fund 42 projects across 18 homeless services organizations. Projects include Permanent Supportive Housing, Rapid Re-housing, Transitional Housing, Support Services, and Safe Haven projects. The award also includes dedicated youth projects through the original Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program and funding to support CoC Planning, the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS), and Coordinated Access. New projects awarded through this funding stream are anticipated to start by October 1, 2023.
“I would like to commend our local homeless services providers, the CoC, and the Mayor’s Office of Homeless Service (MOHS) staff on a successful CoC application submission,” said Irene Agustin, Director of MOHS. “Not only did the CoC receive the full requested amount, but also a bonus funding award. This will allow five new projects to be funded and increase access to housing for our neighbors who need it most.”
The CoC Program is designed to promote a community-wide commitment to the goal of ending homelessness; to provide funding for efforts by nonprofit providers, states, Indian Tribes or tribally designated housing entities, and local governments to quickly rehouse homeless individuals, families, persons fleeing domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking, and youth while minimizing the trauma and dislocation caused by homelessness; to promote access to and effective utilization of mainstream programs by homeless individuals and families; and to optimize self-sufficiency among those experiencing homelessness. The CoC Program Competition is an annual competitive application and awards funding annually. The FY2022 application was submitted to HUD on September 30, 2022. Last year’s Notice of Funding Opportunity was open for 60 days, in previous years the typical competition has been open for over 90 days.
