Stakeholders Invited to Third Public Meeting to Develop DPW
Solid Waste Management Plan

City Encourages Residents to Attend the March 27 Online Meeting, Comment on 10-Year Solid Waste Management Plan

The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) will hold the third of five public meetings to offer residents and other stakeholders the opportunity to comment on updates to the city’s 10-Year Solid Waste Management Plan. This online meeting will be held Monday, March 27 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The plan assesses the City’s public and private solid waste collection systems, establishes goals for managing the waste stream, and identifies existing and future disposal capacity needs. The plan also identifies options for implementing reuse, recycling and composting programs. Public input is critical to guide the updates and the plan’s development.  DPW is asking stakeholders, including residents, activists, community leaders, and local organizations to provide comments on the 10-Year Solid Waste Management Plan. For the March 27  online  meeting, comments will be gathered  through an online document and by email.

The March 27  online meeting can be accessed on the Webex digital platform. The Webex virtual meeting registration  link is available here: https://publicworks.baltimorecity.gov/pw-bureaus/solid-waste/plan.

This third online-only meeting is being held as the 10-year draft plan is 99 percent complete. In April, two in-person and online public meetings will be held to present the final draft. Please view the meeting schedule here. Two weeks prior to each meeting, plan drafts will be released on DPW’s  10-Year Solid Waste Management Plan webpage for public comments. Comments can be posted directly to the plan draft, here: Solid Waste Management Plan Update -- 99% Draft 3.17.23 | Baltimore Department of Planning (konveio.com).

Comments can also be emailed to SolidWastePlan@baltimorecity.gov. All meetings will be recorded and made available to the public.

DPW is committed to protecting our environment and the health and well-being of residents and visitors. The review and updates to the plan will include the City’s solid waste management and the impacts of regulations; regional setting, population projections and requirements and policies for the City’s Comprehensive Plan; and policies and programs related to the Baltimore City’s Office of Sustainability’s 2019 Baltimore Sustainability Plan and the 2018 Baltimore Food Waste Recovery Strategy.
