City of Baltimore Gears Up for National Bike to Work Week
Bike to Work Week events will be held May 17-22, 2022; Registration is now open
BALTIMORE, MD (May 16, 2022) – Today, Mayor Brandon M. Scott and Baltimore City Department of Transportation Director Steve Sharkey, along with biking partners including the Baltimore Metropolitan Council, Baltimore City Department of Human Resources, Baltimore City Department of Planning’s Office of Sustainability, and members of the Mayor’s Bicycle Advisory Commission kick off Bike to Work Week. Bike to Work Week is celebrated across the United States each May to promote biking to work and public awareness of bicycle safety.
“After celebrating virtually these past 2 years, we are excited to celebrate our 25th annual Bike to Work week events in person this year to promote biking as a healthy and sustainable commuting option,” said Mayor Brandon M. Scott. “I encourage all residents to consider participating in our biking events this week. Whether you ride for fun, fitness or transportation, you will be part of our movement towards safer streets, connected communities and a healthier city.”
To celebrate biking in Baltimore City, Bike to Work festivities will be held at various locations throughout the week. The Department of Transportation, along with its biking partners, have planned special events to promote biking as a sustainable commuting alternative that will help to achieve our regional goals including improved health metrics, reduced air emissions, and enhanced safety for cyclists.
This year since many people are still working from home, residents can register and participate if they bike at all during the week, not just during their commute. Registration and events can be found at www.biketoworkmd.com. The following events will take place in Baltimore City May 17-22, 2022 and residents are encouraged to participate:
