Keeping you Informed
As MIMA continues to support the City’s COVID-19 response, we are providing monthly updates related to public services and resources for our communities.
In Support of Ukraine
Did you know Baltimore City has a Sister City in Ukraine? The Baltimore-Odesa Sister City Committee (BOSCC) was established in 1974 and is the City’s second oldest relationship.
Ukrainian immigrants began settling in Baltimore during the 1880s, especially in Highlandtown, Fells Point, and Patterson Park. During the early 1900s, many Ukrainian immigrants worked for steel- and glass-makers; what was previously the beating heart of the Baltimore economy. Many more fled to Baltimore both during the first and second world war and came through not only Ellis Island, but the Port of Baltimore as well.
In response to the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, BOSCC has been leading efforts to provide aid to residents of Odesa impacted by Russia’s invasion. For more information on how to support BOSCC, please visit the BOSCC website.
