Department of Transportation Announces New School Zone and Red-Light Camera Locations in Baltimore City Communities
Additional enforcement locations will help to increase traffic safety
BALTIMORE, MD (Friday, March 4, 2022) – The Baltimore City Department of Transportation will implement new automated enforcement locations in the coming weeks, as part of the City’s Automated Traffic Violation Enforcement System (ATVES).
Baltimore’s ATVES uses automated speed, red-light and commercial vehicle height monitoring cameras to promote safe driving in city communities. This program is designed to increase safety by reducing driver speeds in school zones and decreasing the incidence of vehicles running red lights. The ATVES program also helps to reduce traffic congestion and damage to streets, homes and other infrastructure by commercial vehicles that travel along restricted roadways.
The speed camera monitoring system consists of portable and fixed cameras that detect vehicles which exceed the posted speed limit by at least 12 miles per hour. Speed cameras operate in Baltimore City school zones Monday through Friday, from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM throughout the year. The speed camera violation fine is $40.00 as set by State Law.
Speed camera implementation will begin on or about Monday, March 14, 2022 at the following locations, including multiple directions:
- 2000-2400 blocks N. Forest Park Avenue (southbound) – Dickey Hill Elementary/Middle School
- 100-700 blocks W. Lake Avenue (eastbound and westbound) – Boys Latin School of Maryland, The Bryn Mawr School
- 200 block E. Northern Parkway – Redeemer Parish Day School
The red-light camera monitoring system consists of stationary cameras that use sensors working in conjunction with traffic control signals to record images of motor vehicles entering an intersection during a red-light signal phase. Photos and video are taken of the vehicle with the red-light signal visible, both before the vehicle enters the intersection and while it is driving through it. The red-light enforcement cameras are operational 24 hours a day, every day of the year, and a violation is $75.00.

- Liberty Heights Avenue at Hilton Avenue
- Howard Street at Mulberry Street
- Boston Street at Aliceanna Street
