Mayor Scott's Statement on Ukraine
Last week, Mayor Scott released a statement in solidarity with the people of Ukraine at home and abroad, as well as Baltimore's Sister City of Odesa. For more details, read the Mayor's full Statement to Odesa.
For your information, MIMA has developed a list of organizations supporting Ukrainian refugees:
Designation of Ukraine for Temporary Protected Status (TPS)
Also last week, the Biden Administration announced the designation of Ukraine for TPS for 18 months. A forthcoming Federal Register notice will provide instruction for applying to TPS. Residents should be aware of scams and only seek legal advice from licensed attorneys or legal service providers. Please see MIMA’s Welcome Guide for information regarding legal services or use AILA’s Immigration Lawyer Search.
Keeping you Informed
As MIMA continues to support the City’s COVID-19 response, we are providing monthly updates related to public services and resources for our communities.
COVID-19 Updates
As of March 8, 2022, masks are required in many settings, such as public transportation and health care facilities including vaccination and testing sites. People with symptoms, a positive test, or exposure to someone with COVID-19 should also wear a mask. Masks may also be useful in crowded spaces, particularly in areas with limited ventilation. Masks and vaccines remain important tools in our fight against COVID-19.
Getting vaccinated while pregnant or breastfeeding
Pregnant people have a higher risk of serious complications from COVID-19, so it’s extra important to be protected from the virus. Not only is getting vaccinated while breastfeeding safe, it also passes protection from COVID-19 to the baby through breastmilk. Check out this fact sheet for more information.
Updated guidance for moderately and severely immunocompromised people
People 5 years and older who are moderately or severely immunocompromised are eligible for a third dose 28 days after their second dose and for a booster dose at least 3 months after their 3rd dose of Pfizer or Moderna.
COVID-19 Vaccine Hesitancy Fund
The Baltimore Community Fund is working with the CDC and Michigan State University to award Baltimore community organizations and partners whose programs and/or projects seek to increase COVID-19 vaccine uptake among Black and Latinx adults aged 18-34 in Baltimore City/County. For more information, visit the COVID-19 Vaccine Hesitancy Fund page (information available in English and Spanish).
At-home COVID-19 test kits and masks at the Pratt Library
In partnership with the Baltimore City Health Department, the Pratt Library is continuing to offer a limited number of COVID-19 at-home rapid testing kits and KN95 masks, available while supplies last. Test kits and masks can be picked up at Pratt Library locations during operating hours. Each adult or minor accompanied by an adult can pick up 2 tests and one pack of 5 masks. Check the latest updates and availability at the Pratt Library's test and mask distribution web page.
COVID-19 Vaccines
All Baltimore City residents age 5 and above are eligible for vaccination! To register for the vaccine, visit the Baltimore City Health Department's vaccination registration web page, available in English and Spanish. Spanish speakers can call and/or leave a voicemail with the Esperanza Center (667-600-2314) to sign up for a vaccine appointment. If you leave a voicemail, you will get a call back within 24-48 hours. Speakers of all other languages can text or leave a voicemail with the International Rescue Committee (571-412-1202).
