City of Baltimore Announces Preparations for Impact of Predicted Coastal Flooding
Sandbags and garage parking will be available to Baltimore City residents
BALTIMORE, MD – The Baltimore City Department of Transportation (BCDOT) and the Parking Authority of Baltimore City (PABC) announced today that sandbags and garage parking will be available for Baltimore City residents in preparation for possible flooding expected Thursday, October 28, 2021 through Saturday, October 30, 2021.
With the threat of tidal flooding in low lying areas, the BCDOT will have limited quantities of sandbags available for city residents on Friday, October 29, 2021 from approximately 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the following locations:
- Fell’s Point – Intersection of Thames and Caroline Streets
- Frederick Avenue – Still Meadow Church located at 5110 Frederick Avenue
- Cherry Hill – 2601 Spellman Road
Sandbags will be available to Baltimore City residents on a first-come, first-served basis. Residents must show proof of residency and will be limited to 10 sandbags each. Residents must fill and transport their sandbags. Sand, bags, bag ties and shovels will be supplied.
Baltimore City residents in low-lying areas should prepare for possible flooding and move their vehicles to higher ground, especially in the Harbor East, Fell’s Point, Canton and Cherry Hill neighborhoods. Residents are strongly advised not to walk or drive through flooded areas, or park in restricted areas. Motorists who encounter flooded roadways should turn around, use alternate routes, and avoid moving/bypassing any barricades that have been placed by emergency personnel.
Fell’s Point residents who have their vehicles parked in areas prone to flooding are strongly encouraged to relocate their cars as soon as possible. The Fleet and Eden Garage (501 S. Eden Street), the Caroline Street Garage (805 S Caroline Street) and the Little Italy Garage (400 S. Central Avenue) will be open from 6:00 p.m. this evening (October 28, 2021) until 9:00 a.m. on Sunday (October 31, 2021) so that residents can park their cars in the garage at no charge to avoid possible flooding in the area. Space is limited and available on a first come, first served basis and vehicles must be moved out of the garage by 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 31, 2021 to avoid any fees.
