“The backbone of any great city is convenient transportation, and the addition of six new Circulator buses to our fleet is important for improving the reliability of this service. My administration is committed to reinvigorating our transportation infrastructure and building a more equitable system that serves all of our residents,” said Mayor Brandon M. Scott.
The six additional vehicles will join the existing fleet beginning March 31, 2021, along with the implementation of a new Charm City Circulator route schedule. New schedules have recently begun on all CCC routes, including the Green, Orange, Purple, and Banner lines. While there is no change to the current circulator routes, the CCC fleet's expansion is expected to increase on-time performance and decrease passenger wait times in conjunction with the new route schedules. The new route schedule reflects current traffic trends, and it is based on current transit best practices, which will also help to shorten travel times along all CCC circuits.
“With the recent celebration of the Charm City Circulator’s 11-year anniversary this past January, the City of Baltimore remains committed to providing unsurpassed transit service in the downtown area,” said Department of Transportation Director Steve Sharkey. “We are proud to offer this important shuttle service that helps to reduce traffic congestion and greenhouse gas pollution in our city.”
The CCC provides free shuttle service for city residents, employees, students, tourists and anyone else who wishes to ride. Buses currently operate Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and weekends from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. As the additional buses and new route schedules are being implemented, riders can leave feedback about their CCC experiences during a 30-day comment period. Riders are encouraged to provide comments starting April 1st through April 30, 2021 by visiting https://transportation.baltimorecity.gov/2021-schedule-changes-and-public-comment.
The Department of Transportation would like to ensure patrons that public safety is our top priority, and proper precautions are being taken during the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure passenger safety. Stringent cleaning and disinfecting protocols have been implemented on all CCC buses and the extended CCC Harbor Connector maritime vessels, along with modified boarding procedures.
