BALTIMORE, MD (Monday, January 25, 2021) — Today, Mayor Brandon M. Scott announced that YouthWorks, Baltimore City’s summer jobs program for young people, has opened online registration for the 2021 summer session.
Residents ages 14-21 can visit youthworks.oedworks.com to register as a new or returning prospective YouthWorks participant.
“I am thrilled to announce registration for this year’s program, which brings opportunities for summer jobs for our young people,” said Mayor Brandon M. Scott. “This vital citywide initiative is a true partnership between city government, our private and philanthropic partners, and our community businesses. In the coming months we will continue to support, raise money and identify employment opportunities for our young people so we can provide as many paid opportunities as possible this summer.”
The 2021 registration process will be conducted entirely online and will be open through March 19, 2021. The Baltimore Digital Equity Coalition will provide technical support to applicants and their families during the application process. Additionally, Wide Angle Youth Media has produced video tutorials to help with the registration process.
YouthWorks 2021 is scheduled to operate a largely virtual program from June 28 - August 6, 2021. YouthWorkers will work four hours per day, five days per week and receive the minimum wage of $11.75/hour. As in 2020, many YouthWorkers will use a web-based tool that includes job readiness, career exploration, financial literacy, academic enrichment and skills training.
“Year after year, Baltimore’s young people show that they want to work,” said Jason Perkins-Cohen, Director of the Mayor's Office of Employment Development. “With the economic crisis brought on by the pandemic, it’s more important than ever that we provide youth with ways to earn money, learn workplace skills and develop into our future workforce.”
