Broken Water Main Causes Clay-Colored Plume 
in the Harbor Area Near the Canton Waterfront Park

 

Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) Acting Director Matthew W. Garbark announced today that a broken water main is contributing to the plume of clay-colored water in the Harbor area around the Canton Waterfront Park.

 

Early this afternoon, DPW identified a 6-inch water main break at 932 S. Robinson St. In addition to the discolored water in the Harbor, the broken water main caused 100 water service outages. DPW’s Utility Maintenance Division is on site making the necessary repairs. 

 

The clay-colored water is attributed to water released from the broken main and mixed with dirt and/or clay-colored fill. This water discoloration is temporary and does not pose a public health threat. The quality of the City’s drinking water is not affected by this temporary discoloration.
