Mayor Bernard C. “Jack” Young Announces Cancellation of Public Events Through August 31
Events larger than 250 participants will be cancelled through August 31; all event permits of any size are canceled through May 31
BALTIMORE, MD. — Mayor Bernard C. “Jack” Young announced today that all public events held in Baltimore City slated to include more than 250 people have been cancelled through August 31st, 2020. Mayor Young issued the following statement:
“After consultation of our public health experts, we believe this is the best move for the health of our City and its residents,” Mayor Young said.
Cancelled events include the Baltimore Office of Promotion and The Arts’ (BOPA) large-scale summer events Artscape 2020 and Baltimore’s 4th of July Celebration. In addition, all events to including fewer than 250 participants are cancelled through May 31, 2020.
Effective immediately and until August 31, all events larger than 250 participants are cancelled. No reschedules will be accommodated for cancelled events in 2020, but the City will strive to make accommodations for 2021. The following permit and event types are impacted by this decision:
- Park Permits (private and open to public)
- ALL BCRP events (permitted and hosted)
- DOT Permits (special events)
The Janet & Walter Sondheim Artscape Prize exhibitions will proceed on a virtual platform this year. In addition, Picnic at the Top, held at Top of the World Observation Level, is also canceled. BOPA will continue to adapt its annual programming and seek alternatives, including virtual platforms in response to the health crisis. Announcements will be made accordingly in the coming weeks.
AFRAM vendors with questions regarding the cancellation are encouraged to email aframvendors@baltimorecity.gov. All other permit holders are asked to contact the BCRP Office of Special Events at park.permits@baltimorecity.gov for guidance and assistance. DOT permit holders are encouraged to email specialevents@baltimorecity.gov.
