Council President Calls for Emergency State Board of Elections Meeting on Status of Baltimore's Ballots
Call Follows Council President's Request for Information About Whereabouts of Baltimore City's Ballots on Friday
BALTIMORE, MD (May 17, 2020) — Baltimore City Council President Brandon M. Scott released the following statement in response to information released today by the Maryland State Board of Elections regarding the status of ballots for Baltimore City voters for the June 2, 2020 Primary Election:
"The Maryland State Board of Elections is now reporting that ballots destined for Baltimore City were not mailed to registered voters by May 8, 2020, as previously stated.
This report is completely unacceptable, endangers the voting rights of the people of Baltimore, and seems to be part of a pattern that began in the 7th District Special Primary when 20,367 ballots were never delivered to Baltimore City residents.
The State Board of Elections must have an open, public meeting no later than Tuesday of this week to address this emergency and update Baltimore voters on the status of their ballots. I am also requesting answers to the following questions:
- Have all ballots been put in the mail for registered voters in Baltimore City?
- If all have not been mailed, by when will all ballots be mailed?
- How many ballots were mailed out on Thursday?
- How many ballots were mailed out on Friday?
They need to respond immediately."
