Mayor Bernard C. “Jack” Young Orders Delay of FY21 Water Rate Increase

Mayor Young calls for 3-month delay of water, sewer, and stormwater rate increases

BALTIMORE, MD.  — Today, Mayor Bernard C. “Jack” Young directed the Department of Public Works and the Department of Finance to develop a plan to delay the effective date for the Fiscal Year 2021 water rate increases, including water, sewer and stormwater rates. The Mayor is requesting a 3-month delay in the effective date, from July, 1, 2020 to October 1, 2020. Mayor Young issued the following statement:

“At this time of uncertainty and extraordinary need, I will champion the residents of Baltimore by calling for a delay to this rate increase,” said Mayor Young. “This is an effort to support a comprehensive response and recovery to this unprecedented emergency without adding further burden on our residents.”

In the coming weeks, Mayor Young will present a plan to the Board of Estimates for consideration. Mayor Young encourages all members to put the residents of our city first and join him in this critical initiative.
