Mayor Bernard C. “Jack” Young, University of Maryland Medical System, Lord Baltimore Hotel Announce TRI Support Initiative

Agreement will allow residents who are unable to self-isolate due to their living situations to safely isolate

BALTIMORE, MD.  — Today, Mayor Bernard C. “Jack” Young, the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS), and the Lord Baltimore Hotel announced a partnership that will allow residents with COVID-19 symptoms who cannot self-isolate to be referred to the Lord Baltimore Hotel. Mayor Young issued the following statement:

“I want to thank the Lord Baltimore Hotel and UMMS for supporting this partnership,” Mayor Young said. “By accepting referrals from hospitals for people who cannot self-isolate or may have difficulty self-isolating, due to their living situation, Project TRI Support will reduce the spread of COVID-19.”

TRI Support will provide Triage, Respite and Isolation services to individuals with moderate or mild COVID-19 symptoms who are unable to self-isolate where they live and do not require hospitalization. This includes individuals who live in multi-generational households, congregate living settings, individuals experiencing homelessness, members of the immigrant community, housing insecure and frontline workers who wish to reduce the risk of transmission at home.

“For 92 years, we have provided hospitality to the Baltimore community. We couldn’t be more proud to be able to continue to do so today during these trying times,” General Manager of the Lord Baltimore Hotel Onahlea Shimunek said.

UMMS, the Baltimore City Health Department, and other city agencies will work together to provide resident and clinical support services. Meals and cleaning services will also be provided.

“As part of the University of Maryland Medical System’s longstanding commitment to Baltimore City, we are proud to provide clinical support for this important initiative led by Mayor Young," said University of Maryland Medical System President and CEO Mohan Suntha, MD, MBA. "Ensuring that COVID positive individuals have a safe place to self-isolate is a critical public health challenge for local and state governments and an essential effort in our collective response to this crisis. Supporting this type of operation is part of our foundational mission as anchor institutions in the communities we serve.”
