Mayor Bernard C. “Jack” Young, Department of Recreation and Parks Announce Securing of Playgrounds and Exercise Equipment
Mayor Young, Executive Director Reginald Moore move to secure facilities as necessary precaution for social distancing
BALTIMORE, MD. — Today, the Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks (BCRP) will begin securing playgrounds and exercise equipment at all Baltimore City parks. Mayor Bernard C. “Jack” Young issued the following statement:
“After seeing people use this equipment despite the need to practice social distancing while in public, I asked Executive Director Reginald Moore to secure these locations,” Mayor Young said. “Our staff will continue to make every effort to ensure residents can stay fit and active.”
BCRP will begin securing all playground and exercise equipment as a precaution against the spread of COVID-19 through the use of these facilities. BCRP maintains more than 145 playgrounds citywide.
Last week, BCRP announced the launch of alternative recreation options through its Virtual Rec Center. The Virtual Rec Center provides an array of activities from at-home workouts, art and nature projects, STEM lessons, outdoor activities like gardening or bird watching, and much more. The new digital resource page provides safe, alternative recreation options for residents of all ages and abilities.
