Mayor Bernard C. “Jack” Young Announces Public-Private Partnership for New Drive-Thru Testing Site at Pimlico Race Course

Mayor Young, LifeBridge Health, Stronach Group, Maryland National Guard, and Maryland Jockey Club join to bring community testing site online

BALTIMORE, MD.  — Today, Mayor Bernard C. “Jack” Young announced the launch of a new drive-thru testing site at Pimlico Race Course, through a public-private partnership with LifeBridge Health, the Maryland Jockey Club/ The Stronach Group and the Maryland National Guard.

“Bringing this testing site online represents a key step for Baltimore City’s response to COVID-19,” Mayor Young said. “I am thankful for the efforts of all of the City’s partners in this endeavor.”

Statewide and national data shows that COVID-19 is having a disparate impact on communities of color.  The Pimlico site is located in the 21215 zipcode, which currently has the highest number of COVID-19 cases in Baltimore City.  “My administration is using data to drive decision making regarding the deployment of health care resources,” said Mayor Young.  “This is why we selected Pimlico as our first community site.”

The drive-thru testing site will be located in the parking lot of the Pimlico Race Course. LifeBridge Health, which provides health services through Sinai Hospital in Northwest Baltimore, will operate the site in conjunction with the Baltimore City Health Department and Baltimore’s Office of Emergency Management.

Testing at this site will begin on Friday, April 10th.  Testing is by appointment only at this time and will be scheduled by LifeBridge.

The Maryland Jockey Club of Baltimore City, Inc., has made the property available, and the Maryland National Guard built the facility.  “The Maryland Jockey Club and The Stronach Group are proud to be working alongside Baltimore City and all public and private partners on this important community initiative,” said a representative of the Maryland Jockey Club.
